COVID-19 Update – 05.22.20
ShivaShakti is closely monitoring the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. Our planning is focused on ensuring the safety of our course participants and adhering to Maine state regulations. At this time, this training will continue to be offered as planned. We will update course participants 30 days before the course date if there are any changes.
In this 4-day intensive yoga teachers and dedicated practitioners experience an in-depth look at the principles of alignment in Hatha yogasana from an Iyengar perspective. Long, mindful holds in poses allow the students to work with the subtleties of alignment and the often over-looked intricacies of classical postures. Participants can expect their own practices to advance, as well as gaining useful insights to advance their teaching skills by focusing on the key alignment principles of asana. During the morning workshop-style classes on asana alignment, there is time for discussion and observation of alignment in various bodies. Each of the four days will be devoted to one of the major families of yoga asanas: standing poses, forward bend and twists, inversions, and backward extensions.
Afternoons are spent delving into the classical teachings of Raja Yoga through Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. These classes include sutra chanting and lecture/dialog into the significance of these time-honored aphorisms. Furthermore, this course offers an emphasis on how to apply the wisdom of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras to yoga teaching and modern, house-holder life.
Each day also includes a Sanskrit language class. Through a focus on writing and chanting the Devanagari (Sanskrit alphabet) and proper Sanskrit pronunciation teachers will grow their use of Sanskrit in teaching.
This intensive is ideal for yoga teachers or experienced practitioners looking to develop a deeper, experiential understanding of classical Hatha and Raja Yoga. Each day includes a 1-hour lunch break.
